W. Todd

According to his attestation papers dated October 7, 1915, William James Daniel Todd was born on August 31, 1883 in Toronto.  He listed his wife Mary Todd, Victoria Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated his occupation as Driver and Peddling.  He had no previous military experience.  He was 32 years and 1 month of age.  He was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes, dark hair and complexion.  He had a scar on his right eye lid, right thumb and above his right knee.  He was a Methodist.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as an expressman living on the north side of Evans Avenue.

J. Tomlinson

According to his attestation papers dated February 22, 1916, James Tomlinson was born on June 10, 1887 in Lancashire, England.  He listed his wife Annie Ethel Tomlinson of Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a Builder by trade and had no previous military experience.  He was 28 years and 6 months of age and was 5 feet 4 1/2 inches in height.  He had grey eyes, fair hair and a fresh complexion.  He had a red dot on the lid of his left eye.  He was a Methodist.

According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was a carpenter living on the west side of Dartmouth Crescent, Mimico.

C. J. Trafford

According this his attestation papers dated January 13, 1916, Cecil John Trafford was born in Oxford, England on January 7, 1898.  He listed his father Walter J. Trafford, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he worked on the railway and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment of the York Rangers.  He was 18 years of age and stood 5 feet tall.  He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His father Walter and brother Ralph also enlisted.

R. Trafford

According to his first set of attestation papers dated November 6, 1916, Ralph Trafford was born in Oxford, England on November 2, 1898.  He listed his mother Eliza Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a machinist.  He indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 18 years old and 5 feet 1 inches tall.  He had grey blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a mole under his right arm; a scar on the corner of his left eye; and a scar on the back of his left index finger.  It appears that he was discharged after four and a half months due to being underweight.

He then enlisted again.  According to his second set of attestation papers dated September 14, 1917, Ralph Trafford was born in New Martin, Oxfordshire, England on November 2, 1898.  He listed his mother Elizabeth Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was a labourer and indicated that he had had four and a half months of previous military experience with the 208th Battalion.  He had been previously discharged from the military for being underweight.  He was 18 years and 10 months of age and was 5 feet 2 1/2 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion.  He had a scar on the first finger of his left hand.  A scar on the side of his right eye, and mole on the right side of his back.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His father Walter and his brother Ralph also enlisted.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he is listed as a steamfitter living on the west side of Milton Street, Mimico.

W. Trafford

According to his attestation papers dated March 3, 1916, Walter John Trafford was born in Oxford, England on August 26, 1872.  He listed his wife Mrs. Eliza Trafford, Portland Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He was an Engineer by profession and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers Regiment.  He was 40 years and 5 months of age and stood 5 feet 10 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

His sons Cecil and Ralph also enlisted.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he was living on the north side of Portland Street.

C. Turley

According to his attestation papers dated October 20, 1915, Chester George Turley, was born in Brentwood, Ontario on September 3, 1895.  He first listed his father George Turley of 155 Emerson Avenue, Toronto as his next of kin but it was later crossed out and Mary Turley, 605 Brantford Street (?) was written in.  He indicated that he was a Shipper and that he had no previous military experience.  He was 20 years 1 month in age and stood at 5 feet 10 inches tall.  He had blue eyes, brown hair and a medium complexion.  He had a 1/2 inch scar on his right foot, on top near his little toe.

According to the 1921 Toronto City directory he was boarding at the home of Peter McBridge on the north side of Mimico Avenue.

H. Y. Turner

According to his attestation papers dated April 17, 1916, Herbert Yolland Turner was born in London, England on July 9, 1885.  He listed his wife Mahalah Chaloner Turner, Mimico Beach as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a clerk and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers.  He was 30 years and 9 months of age and was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and dark hair and complexion.  He had scars on his right foot and left "inguinal" region.  He was a Baptist.

In the 1921 Toronto City directory he was living on the east side of Burlington Street.

According to his attestation papers, dated January 8, 1916, Lewis LeRoy Tyson was born on April 9th, 1897 in Mimico.  He listed a friend, Mrs. Lucy Devons of 164 Fairview Avenue, West Toronto, as his next of kin.  He was a Brass Worker and had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment of the York Rangers.  He was 5 feet 8 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes, light hair and a fair complexion. 

Pte. H. Valentine - 799653

According to his first set of attestation papers, dated April 16, 1915, Henry Guild Valentine was born on May 19, 1883 in Inverkeillor, Scotland.  He listed his mother Betsy Valentine of 15 Lilybank Road, Dundee, Scotland as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a Railroad Engineer and that he had had no previous military experience.  He was 31 years and 11 months of age and 5 feet 11 inches in height.  He had blue eyes with fair hair and complexion.  He was a Presbyterian

According to his second set of attestation papers, dated January 25, 1916, Henry Guild Valentine indicated that he had had 4 months of previous military experience with the 36th Peel.  He was 32 years and 8 months old and was 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall.  He had a scar on the back of his left thigh and a red scar on his left forearm near his elbow.  He was a Presbyterian.

He was member of the 15th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment) when he was killed on April 9, 1917.  The War Grave Commission register indicates that he died of wounds while in the care of the No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance and is buried in the Quatre-Vents Military Cemetery in Estree-Cauchy, France.

G. Vaughan

According to his attestation papers, dated January 4, 1916, George Vaughan was born in Wales on April 1, 1876.  He listed his wife Agnes Vaughan as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as coat presser and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 40 years, 9 months of age and 5 feet 3 1/2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes, dark brown hair as well as a dark complexion.  He was missing the thumb on his left hand and had a scar on his forehead.   He was a Congreationist.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a presser and lived on the north side of Warden.

L. Vint

According to his attestation papers, dated August 17, 1915, Lloyd Victor Vint was born on April 13, 1895 in Penetanguishene, Ontario.  He listed his mother Constance Vint as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as a clerk and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 48th Highlanders.  He was 20 years and 4 months of age and 5 feet 9 1/4 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a clerk living with his parents on the east side of Victor Avenue. 

His brother Roy also enlisted.

R. Vint

According to his attestation papers, dated December 1, 1916, Roy Reginald Vint was born in Penetang, Ontario on September 12, 1894.  He listed his mother, Christina Vint as his next of kin.  He was an accountant and had no previous military experience.  He was 23 years and 4 months of age.  He was 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown eyes and hair.  He was Presbyterian.

According to the 1914 Toronto City directory he was a bookkeeper at the Ontario Sewer Pipe Co. Ltd. in Mimico and lived with his father's home on the east side of Victor Avenue.

His brother also enlisted.

According to his attestation papers, dated March 4, 1916, Sydney Gilbert Waller was born in Sawantwarri, (Sawantwadi?) India on March 25, 1875.  He listed his wife Hattie Irene Waller as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as in advertising.  He did not have any previous military experience.  He was 40 years and 11 months old and was 6 feet tall.  He had grey eyes and grayish brown hair with a fresh complexion.  He was slightly deaf, especially in the right ear.

K. K. Warner

According to his attestation papers, dated January 8, 1916, Kenneth Kipling Warner was born in York County on April 19, 1897.  He listed his mother Victoria Warner as his next of kin.  He listed his occupation as railroad employee and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers.  He was 18 years, 9 months old and was 5 foot 7 inches tall.  He had two scars from an operation on the right side of his neck due to "cerneal ademites".  He was  Methodist.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he Victoria Warner lived on the south side of Southampton (present day Cavel Avenue).

J. Watt

According to his attestation papers, dated November 8, 1915, James Watt was born in Cruden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on January 18, 1879.  He listed his wife May Watt, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a labourer and that he had no previous military experience.  He was 38 years, 10 months old and was 5 feet, 4 1/2 inches tall with blue eyes and brown hair with a fresh complexion.  He had a 4 inch scar on the right side of his back.  He was a Presbyterian.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he was a bricklayer living on the north side of Portland Street, Mimico.

W. Weaver

According to his attestation papers, dated September 19, 1916, Walter Weaver was born in Glasgow Scotland on November 26, 1899.  He listed his mother Margaret Weaver, Macdonald Avenue, as his next of kin.  He was a machinist apprentice and had no previous military experience.  He was 16 years, 9 months old and 5 foot 11/4 inches tall.  He had gray eyes with fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.

There is a second set of attestation papers dated September 3, 1918.  In these he states that he was born in Patrick, Scotland and was living at 355 Perth Street, Toronto.  His age is listed as 19 years 2 months.

Lt. F. A. Werden

According to his attestation papers, dated December 9, 1915, Frederick Asa Werden was a Lieutenant in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.  He was born in Toronto on October 23, 1882.  He listed his mother, Mrs. Austin Werden as his next of kin.  He was a merchant by profession and was a active member of the GGBG (Governor Generals Body Guard).  He had 5 years previous military experience with the Canadian Signaling Corps.

Frederick Asa Werden was a member of the Central Ontario Regiment, 75th Battalion when he was killed on January 10, 1918.  He died of wounds at the No. 30 Casualty Clearing Station, and is buried in the Bucquoy Road Cemetery near Ficheux, France.

Frederick's father was Austin Werden, postmaster and grocer located on the east side of Church Street in Mimico (present day Royal York Road) at Pidgeon Avenue (present day Stanley Avenue).

According to his attestation papers dated January 20, 1916, Walter John West was born in Kingsdown, Wiltshire, England on February 16, 1890.   He listed his wife Mrs. Rose West, Deane Street, Mimico as his next of kin.  He indicated that he was a labourer with no previous military experience.  He was 25 years and 11 months of age.  He stood 5 feet 9 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of Church of England.

According to the 1912 Toronto City directory he was working as a brass moulder (most likely at Brown's Copper and Brass in New Toronto) as was bording at the home of E.T. Swayne on the south side of Elizabeth Street.

Pte. L. Wood - 862407

According to his attestation papers dated February 17, 1916, Leonard Robert Wood was born in London, England on September 10, 1896.  He listed his mother Matilda Wood as his next of kin.  He listed his trade as clerk.  He was living on Macdonald Street.  He was 19 years, 5 months of age and 5 feet 9 3/4 inches tall.  He had blue eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He had scars on both knees and a birthmark on his left breast.  He was a member of the Church of England.

He was a member of the British Columbia Regiment, 7th Battalion when he was killed in action on July 23, 1917.  He is buried in the Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, France

Pte. J. C. Woolley - 285306

According to his attestation papers signed on May 15, 1916 Joseph Woolley was born in South Staffordshire, England on June 15, 1883.  He listed his wife Minnie Woolley as his next of kin.  He was a mechanic by trade and indicated that he had had previous military experience with the 12th York Rangers.  He was 32 years and 11 months old and was 5 feet 2 inches tall.  He had brown eyes and dark hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England. 


According to the 1912 Toronto city directory he was working as a carpenter and living on the east side of Lake Crescent.

Pte. J. S. Wooller - 916078

According to his attestation papers signed on February 18, 1916, James Strange Wooller was born in Stratford, England on February 11, 1882.  He listed his trade as a Motorman.  He was married and listed his wife Grace Annie Wooller as next of kin.  He did have past military experience indicating that he had had twelve years experience as a private with the 5th Lancers.  He was 34 years old, 5 feet 7 3/4 inches tall with brown eyes and fair hair and complexion.  He was a member of the Church of England.  On his right forearm he had a tatoo of a Lancer.
