E. Stirk

According to his first set of attestation papers dated August 3, 1915, Ernest Stirk was born on January 24, 1897 in Keighly, North Yorkshire.  He listed his mother Mrs. Julia Stirk, Robert Street, Mimico (present day Wheatfield Road) as his next of kin.  He did not list an occupation and indicated that he had no previous military experience.  He was 18 years of age and was 5 feet 3 inches tall.  He had grey eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion.  He was a Methodist.

According to his second set of attestation papers dated May 14, 1918 in Toronto, he was a member of the 39th (OS) Battalion for 7 months (Signals) but was discharged due to deafness in both ears.  He listed his father Joseph Stirk, Mimico Beach as his next of kin.  He was declared fit for duty.
