According to his attestation papers dated January 13, 1916 at Mimico Claude Lewis Victor Stoot was born on May 1, 1894 in Cambridgeshire, England. He listed his father, William Henry Stoot, Church Street, Mimico (present day Royal York Road) as his next of kin. He indicated that he was a labourer by trade and that he had had previous military experience with the 12th Regiment, York Rangers. He was 22 years of age and stood 5 feet 8 inches tall. He had blue eyes, brown hair with a fair complexion. He was a member of the Church of England.
He was a sapper with the 2nd Battlion, Canadian Railway Troops. He died on December 3, 1918 from influenza at the No. 12 Casualty Clearing Station, and is buried in the Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension in France.
Additional information from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial indicates that his mother's name was Emily Stoot and that they lived on Harold Street, Mimico in 1918.
